School

He started school this morning,
And he seemed so very small,
As I walked there beside him
in the brightly lit hall.

And as he took his place beside
The others in the class,
I realized how all too soon
Those first few years can pass.

Remembering: I saw him as
He first learned how to walk.
The words that we alone made out
When he began to talk.

This little boy so much absorbed
In learning how to write.
It seems as though he must have grown
to boyhood overnight.

My eyes were blurred by hastily
I brushed the tears away
Lest by some word or sign of mine
I mar his first big day.

Oh how I longed to stay with him
And keep him by the hand,
To lead him through the places
That he couldn't understand.

And something closely kin to fear
Was mingled with my pride.
I knew he would no longer be
a baby by my side.

But he must have his chance to live,
To work his problems out,
The privilege to grow and learn
What life is all about.

And I must share my little boy
With friends and work and play;
He's not a baby anymore -
For he starts school today.
We are so proud of you Ryan for starting Preschool, I can't believe how much you have grown in the last month. You wanted nothing to do with school just over a month ago, something changed inside you and you decided that it was time. Being a September birthday, we didn't want to push you, we had the choice to send you or not. We thought we had our minds made, then you started to change, it seems you grew overnight. There are so many emotions running today, you are an incredible little boy, we love you so much, and can't wait to see how much you grow this year!

Jason, you are an amazing child. You have such a love of learning it blows me away. We had to count down the days for you to start Kindergarten. You are a KINDERGARTNER!! I still can't believe it. Even though you wanted Mrs. Konopka as your teacher again(Ryan's now!) You have a wonderful teacher, Miss Borkowski, who loves her job. You only have 7 kids in your class, it was a change from last years 20, but you told me today that you like the quiet when you are "working", I think you are going to learn more with all the one-on-one attention! I love to hear your excitement when I pick you up, and how you ask to do your homework(we'll see how long that lasts=)! We love you so much buddy, happy back to school!
