I love coming up with "hands on" ideas for learning new things. At least once a week I try to do a fun project with the boys, but now that I am homeschooling Jason, I try and put a "lesson" with it. I decided I would make every Friday, "Friday Fun Day". Last Friday we talked about shapes, and counted sides of shapes. I got out marshmallows and toothpicks and made shapes for them to see and then let them build their own shapes. They had so much fun, Lee didn't really build anything, he was too busy eating! But at least he knows how many sides a square has!
Lee and his two handed shove in the mouth...Ryan couldn't resist one every now and again
Jason used all his marshmallows before even trying one...And then the fun part of demolition began!
Today I introduced primary colors and secondary colors. We have talked about colors and mixing before, but I never used the "right" words. They had so much fun with this mess free version of finger painting (if you try it make sure you use heavy duty freezer bags, it will help)
Just put paint in the bag, make sure all the air is out, and tape down to table or counter! (If you have a dark table put a piece of white paper under the bag first so they can see the color better)
There 'paintings' are still on the counter, they make fun place mats for the day!
After Jason was done, he came to me and gave me a hug. I asked him what it was for, and he said, "your the best teacher ever". Needless to say, I felt a little weight of worry being lifted off me(yes I wonder if I am being all I can be for my boys)
Thank you buddy...I needed that today!
