Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We talked about St. Patrick and leprechauns all through out the week, making shamrocks and graphing Lucky Charms cereal, it was a fun week. Yesterday I talked about those tricky Leprechauns and their pot of gold, then got their minds rolling on how they would catch 'em. I brought out a box full of craft stuff and said, "we are going to make traps and catch us a Leprechaun!" They thought it was the greatest idea. After listening to each of their own ideas, I helped them make it a reality. The only thing I told them is that each of them had to have a rainbow, shiny gold, and green on it somewhere...
We started with the basic design of their choice, Ryan a pop bottle I cut, Lee a empty box of trash bags, and Jason a tissue box.
After Jason cut and painted his box, he decorated it, and even added a note to the Leprechaun, "Dear Leprechaun I hope you enjoy your gold From Jason" (all his ideas! too cute)
Jason's idea - to get the Leprechaun to grab the piece of gold with the string on it, thus pulling the stick down and trapping him in the box, so clever!
Ryan had a completely different idea(which surprised me cause he has to do EVERYTHING like his older bother lately) He told me he was going to "dig a hole and cover it with grass so he falls in", well, I didn't feel like digging a hole, so we made his idea with a pop bottle(bottom and top cut off), sticks for a ladder, and a fake felt top so it fell right down
He just loved it, and I thought it was a great idea!
All Lee wanted was a lock, so that one was tricky for me to come up with. But we figured it out and decorated the box and made it just how he wanted, with the stepping stones and all!
So before bed, they set their traps in hopes of catching their Leprechaun and getting his pot of gold. When they woke up, they came downstairs, looked at their traps(all set off) and Jason said, "uh...mommy? I think we got 'em"(a little on the scared side) Then Ryan squealed with excitement seeing the gold candy and note. Lee opened his doors and said, "aw man! I didn't get him" then screamed at seeing the candy. Finally Jason went to his box and slowly lifted it up and with a huge sigh(I think out of relief=) he saw his candy and note. Each note was different, and signed 'Lucky Leprechaun'. Then they sat down eating their candy and started plotting their "bigger and trickier" traps for next time. I wish I got it all on camera, it was sooooooo funny!
